Dr. Matthew Burrell graduated from Sumner Memorial High in Sullivan, Maine in 1977. He then went on to the University of Maine at Orono for two years prior to transferring to Pennsylvania State University where he graduated in 1981. He moved to San Francisco, California to attend professional medical school at the California College of Podiatric Medicine where he graduated in 1985. Dr. Burrell spent a year at the University of Southern California Los Angeles County Hospital prior to moving to Texas for further surgical residency training at the Veterans Administration in Waco, Texas. He initially started a private practice in Corpus Christi, Texas before relocating his family back to New England. Dr. Burrell founded Lake Podiatry, P.A. in 2000 and as of July 9th, 2016, has been in private practice for 30 years.
Dr. Burrell lives in Meredith with his loving wife of 30 years, Deborah. The couple is blessed to have three wonderful children. Kaitlyn, 29, is a Chemical Engineer with an MBA from Rensselear Poly Technical Institute in Troy, New York. Christopher, 26, graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in Finance/Economics and is currently working in the financial district of Boston, Massachusetts. Christopher recently hiked the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia, a very proud accomplishment. The youngest, Courtney, age 20, is in her sophomore year at Franklin Pierce University.
Dr. Burrell enjoys many outdoor activities such as hiking and gardening. During the summer months, he enjoys sailing his boat Sloop Sweetie. Sloop Sweetie belonged to Dr. Burrell's father and has been in the family for many years. The Burrell's enjoy their many pets including, Jaimie, the family Golden Retriever. Jaimie is referred to as the "Office Manager" at Lake Podiatry, PA., and you will most likely catch a glimpse of her while she's on duty in the front office. The newest family member, a Golden Retriever named Autumn, and her buddy the African Grey Parrot, Othello, both visit the office on occasion to make our patients smile.
Dr. Burrell is one of the two physicians left in the Plymouth area that still remains in private practice, and he is the acting Medical Director at the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Speare Memorial Hospital. Dr. Burrell has staff privileges at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, and Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.
